There are many positive reasons why you should use wood chips for your garden, they are:
First They are simply introduce natural and organic materials back into the soil. The mulch will slowly decompose and add nutrients back into the ground.
Second Add mulch to help insulate the plants in colder climates. Around some plants with a few inches of mulch heavily insulate plants from extreme temperature drops.
Third The mulch will actually help lock moisture into the ground, slightly reduce the need for frequent watering.
4th When using mulch around some plants (tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, squash, etc.), you can ensure that all fruit is lying on the floor based on a fairly nice thick mat of mulch. This slows down the decomposition classified as a vegetable in general, as soon as they sit on the floor.
5th Weed control! Mulching is an impressive strategy in line with the weeds under control around your plants.
Here are some tips on using mulch in your garden.
First You do not want to mulch piled too thick. A simple cover of 2 "-4" is sufficient. Any deeper and you'll have a hard time walking and it will insulate the plants too much.
Second I prefer to use a mulch (wood chips actually) by my plants Viney, such as cucumbers, zucchini, squash Crookneck, and pumpkins. These plants are almost impossible to eliminate once they spread their vines and fruits of these plants is still to start on the floor.
Third I spread my mulch with a pitchfork. Works great and is easy to get around your plants with a fork.

First I used the mulch of wood chips and terms interchangeably in this article, Just FYI. There is not much difference, except that the mulch was once dead, and is more refined, and wood chips.
Second I suggest that the raw wood chips to keep away from home or other structures to contain the wood. Chips can accommodate and attract termites. If you are a bunch of raw wood chips that you can compost them for a few weeks to kill termites.
Third I prefer to use wood chips, as they had tree-removal/trimming of almost any company can be. I have a friend who all of our chips (much as we want) available free of charge. It's hard to throw them anywhere and is glad to be rid of.
