I consider myself a normal person in the fast paced world, no doubt, just like you. We have our luxury we take for granted and do not even notice that we have, if you have a power outage. Through my relationship with the Amish, and my desire to learn more about their habits and their work ethic, I recently offered my services to the families of fourteen (14) to help on their small family farm. I soon regret that decision. I had the support of young Amish children ages 7 to 13, throwing sheaves of wheat on a hay wagon pulled by horses. Needless to say, put the young Amish children to embarrass me. I could not go there!
I learned that the Amish are very hardworking and honest man
with an incredible work ethic. They are from a very young age that if a job is
a job worth it is worth just trained. Instilled this value is what makes their
products so special. They live a very simple life with minimalist furnishings
in their homes. It goes without saying that it is what no refrigerators,
televisions, computers, radios, electricity, telephone, fans, etc.
I'm surprised it was ok, there are no pictures, place mats,
what nodes or sofas in their homes! An Amish house with wooden beds, handmade
quilts, chests of drawers base, a kitchen table with chairs, rare woods and wood
floors without even a rug set.
Families in this area are in a car-type black stroller that
is transported pulled by horses. It is not uncommon to see a boy around the age
of 9 years old, driving a team of horses pulling him to a field on a cart or
wagon. These cars have wooden spoke wheels, big wheels thick steel. The wheels
of the wagons have to tough to reach the newspapers in the mill or hay in the
barn. The Old Order Amish do not use rubber on their wheels, and even the hub
is made of wood. A strip of metal (steel wheel) actually runs on the road. The
wheels are a bit like the wheels on cars with the exception of the Western
represented slightly narrower.
